Metal Detecting

Ben and I enjoy metal detecting. The very first time we tried our own backyard, here in Memphis, this is what we found.The first piece is a United Confederate Veterans Reunion Badge from 1910. It's missing its hanger bar from the top. The reunion was held in Mobile, Alabama April 26-28, 1910. When Ben found this it was folded completely over on itself. He had to use a hammer to beat it back into shape. This ring is the Cross of Lorraine. It's sterling silver and from the 79th Infantry Division of the United States Army. They were active during WWII, between 1942-1945. These two pieces have been our very best finds, and they came out of our own backyard. We found these at least 10 years ago and only knew a little about them. A few weeks ago, I joined a metal detecting club on the internet. Keys, dog tags, token from the fair, etc. Coins: quarters, one from 1946, one from 1956, one dime from 1951, one nickel from 1944 and a Buffalo nickel (can't read the date on that one), and Wheat pennies - two from 1941, two from 1945, two from 1950, and a regular penny from 1980. It's a lot of fun.
